Leadership and management are about people as well as decisions.

The technical answer may be clear, yet getting people to understand, accept and carry it out can be another matter.

You may need to address performance, have a conversation you have been avoiding, respond to resistance, manage competing expectations or make a decision that will affect working relationships. You may also be trying to understand why an approach that worked before is no longer working.

I work with individual leaders and leadership teams to examine the issue, their responsibilities and the effect their decisions and behaviour have on others.

Situations we might work through

  • A performance concern is not improving, and it is unclear whether expectations have been understood.
  • A difficult conversation keeps being postponed, even though the issue is affecting the team.
  • A decision makes sense on paper but is meeting resistance from the people expected to implement it.
  • Members of a leadership team have different priorities or understand their responsibilities differently.
  • An approach that once worked is now creating frustration or disengagement.

The decisions only you can make

We can clarify what needs to be addressed, whether expectations and responsibilities are clear, how others may understand the situation and what is within your responsibility or influence.

The work may involve preparing for a difficult conversation, thinking through a performance concern or examining how your own responses affect a situation. With a leadership team, it may involve differences in priorities or a lack of agreement about how decisions should be made and communicated.

The purpose is not to apply a formula for leadership. It is to help you exercise your judgement, address what needs attention and take responsibility for the choices available to you.
